One of the reasons I am disinclined to produce "artist's notes" is that I believe it is the nature of visual art to be highly complex. Within a single image a myriad of ideas can be contained and conveyed; and to try to enlighten the viewer with "notes" necessarily excludes many ideas or concepts at the expense of the few. A picture truly is worth a thousand words, or indeed, more... many more. It would be foolhardy to try to capture the essence of a painting or drawing in a few sentences. The beauty of art is that it cannot be captured or tamed by words. The reason for the visual image is simply that words just won't do; and even if art leaves contradictions and confusion in its wake, that is the price it pays for refusing to be pigeonholed by words. A wiser man than me once said: "pigeon holes are for pigeons".
